The Directorate of Government Accommodation has taken a new decision regarding the direct allotment of ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ category government quarters in accordance with the “Bangladesh Allocation Rules, 1982.” Under Rule 6 of the specified rules, these housings must be allocated by properly adjusting quotas through the respective ministries and divisions.

The directorate issued a formal letter on Tuesday (September 1) to the senior secretaries and secretaries of all ministries and divisions regarding the matter.

According to the letter, Rule 6 of the “Bangladesh Allocation Rules, 1982” mandates that the respective ministries and divisions handle the actual allocation process for ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ category residences. Meanwhile, the role of the Directorate of Government Accommodation is to determine and coordinate the quota distribution for these categories.

The letter further stated that a policy decision had previously been taken to bring ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ category quarters vacant for over three months back into the central housing pool to allocate them to eligible employees in the interest of government revenue generation and efficient management. Based on that decision, several residences were allocated to eligible personnel.

Subsequently, letters were sent to various ministries and divisions requesting allocation updates along with details of vacant quarters. The issue was formally discussed during the meeting of House Allocation Committee-1 of the Directorate of Government Accommodation on June 30.

The recommendation adopted at that meeting suggested that, in compliance with Rule 6 of the “Bangladesh Allocation Rules, 1982,” the directorate will abstain from issuing direct allocations for ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ category quarters and will instead focus on proper quota coordination.
