Traffic police filed cases against a minister’s official vehicle for driving recklessly on the wrong side of the road on Circuit House Road on Thursday morning.

According to a senior traffic police official, the flag-bearing vehicle was spotted heading toward the Secretariat on the wrong side of Circuit House Road at around 9:08 AM. On duty traffic police intercepted the car, which registration number is Dhaka Metro-Gha-18-2125.

“Driving on the wrong side is a complete violation of Dhaka Metropolitan Police laws,” the official said. “Two cases were filed, and a fine of Tk 3,000 was imposed for each, totaling Tk 6,000.”

Traffic police confirmed that two cases were filed against the driver, Arif Hossain, for reckless driving in the Range Rover. Notably, as the minister’s car was driving on the wrong side, the Prime Minister’s motorcade was passing along an adjacent road toward the Secretariat.

Further inquiry revealed that the vehicle belonged to the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, who was present inside the car during the incident.

Traffic officials noted that this marks the first time in Bangladesh that a minister’s vehicle has been sued for driving on the wrong side of the road. While ministers’ vehicles using the wrong side to avoid traffic jams or reach destinations faster has been reported in the media before, filing case over the offense is unprecedented.

Police officials believe this incident serves as a clear message to top state officials regarding strict adherence to traffic rules.
