Sonakshi-Zaheer tie the knot under Special Marriage Act

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha married her long-time boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal in an intimate ceremony at Mumbai apartment on Sunday under the Special Marriage Act. Given their interfaith marriage, Zaheer’s father, businessman Iqbal Ratansi, had previously informed media that the wedding would not follow either Hindu or Muslim rituals. The Special Marriage Act allows inter-faith couples to tie the knot.

Sonakshi and Zaheer shared a joint post on their social media accounts to announce their wedding. The couple also shared dreamy pictures from their marriage ceremony.

Sonakshi draped a white shari for the occasion. She kept her makeup and jewellery minimal. The new bride wore flowers in her hair. Sonakshi’s ivory shari, intricately embroidered and rich in sentimental value, was originally worn by her mother on her own wedding to Shatrughan Sinha around 44 years ago. She also chose matching jewellery from her mother’s collection. Zaheer Iqbal wore a white kurta matching with Sonakshi.

After the wedding, Sonakshi’s father Shatrughan Sinha told media, “Every father waits for this moment when his daughter is given to her chosen groom. My daughter looks most happy with Zaheer. ‘Unki jodi salamat rahe’ (May their union stay strong forever).” He was accompanied by wife Poonam at the wedding.

Apart from Sonakshi and Zaheer’s family members Sonakshi’s BFF Huma Qureshi, her brother Saqib Saleem, Aditi Rao Hydari and her fiance Siddharth, Arpita Khan and Aayush Sharma attended the wedding at Sonakshi’s house.

The couple’s civil wedding was followed by a celebratory party. A reception marked the final leg of celebrations for Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s wedding festivities. It held at the celeb-favourite restaurant Bastian in Mumbai, owned by Shilpa Shetty.

Bollywood celebrities attended the celebrations, dressed to the nines. The guest list included stars like Salman Khan, Rekha, Kajol, Anil Kapoor, Tabu, Raveena Tandon, Vidya Balan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Aditi Rao Hydari, Siddharth, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and others.
