Playwright and producer Monir Hussain Jibon died (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He breathed his last at the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday at 1:30 am.

It is known that Monir Hossain had a stroke. Later he was admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital. He died there while undergoing treatment.

Monir Hossain’s body was laid to rest at Shilpakala Academy on Thursday. After paying public respects, his body will be taken to Manohardi Upazila of village Bari Narsingdi. After the second funeral, he will be buried in the family cemetery.

Monir Hossain was born on February 15, 1968 in Kutubadi (Barbari) village of Manohardi Upazila of Narsingdi. His father freedom fighter MA Aziz was a police officer. Monir Hossain was a player in Narsingdi district and services team Bangladesh Ansar in the eighties. Besides, he used to practice entertainment through the Udichi artist group. Later, he got involved in theater through Bangladesh Theater in Dhaka.

In 1990, Monir Hossain started working as an assistant director in Bangladesh films with the help of his uncle film director Badiul Alam Khokon. He was the chief assistant director of BTV’s first package series Mamunur Rashid’s ‘Shilpi’ and Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Nakkhatrar Raat’. After seeing his work and talent skills, Humayun Ahmed appointed him permanently as the chief assistant director of Nuhash film.

Since 2000, Monir Hossain formed his own production company ‘Swadhin Film’. He produced numerous one-act plays from his own production company. He has produced hundreds of dramas including ‘Shada Kagoj’, ‘Baynar Chokher Jol’, ‘Oprotyashit Protyasha’, ‘Ekjon Moyna’, ‘Gunman’, ‘Bibaho Shonkot’, ‘Korban Alir Kurbani’.
