The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Prashanta Kumar, better known as PK Halder, and 14 others over the alleged embezzlement of around Tk43.56 crore.

ACC Assistant Director Tanzir Ahmed confirmed the matter today (30 September).

The accused are Prashanta Kumar Halder, Swapan Kumar Mistry, Nasim Anwar, MA Hashem, M Nurul Alam, Zahirul Alam, Basudeb Banerjee, Nawsherul Islam, Anwarul Kabir, Nuruzzaman, Rashedul Haque, Nahida Runai, Al-Mamun Sohag, Rafsan Riyad Chowdhury and Sukumar Mridha.

The case was filed under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code 1860; Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947; and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.

Separate case against Nowsherul Islam

The ACC has also filed a separate case against former International Leasing and Financial Services Ltd director Nowsherul Islam over allegations that he acquired Tk5.14 crore in assets beyond his known sources of income and concealed information in his wealth statement.

According to the ACC, Nowsherul concealed information about Tk8,91,098 in assets in his wealth statement and falsely declared his assets.

It also alleged that he acquired and possessed Tk5,14,57,000 in movable and immovable assets inconsistent with his known sources of income.

Nowsherul had been accused as an associate of PK Halder in cases filed over the alleged embezzlement of thousands of crores of taka from International Leasing.

As part of the investigation, he submitted a wealth statement to the ACC on 13 September 2021.

A review of his income tax records found that his assets amounted to Tk12,34,88,154, creating a Tk5,14,57,000 difference from the amount declared by him, the commission said.

ACC asks ex-additional IGP to submit wealth statement

Meanwhile, the ACC has ordered former Additional Inspector General of Police Proloy Kumar Joarder to submit a wealth statement after finding preliminary information on Tk92,14,872 in assets allegedly beyond his known sources of income.
