Dhaka University (DU) proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said that the decision to ban student politics at Dhaka University has not been finalised yet. The decision will be made in discussion with students and teachers. Classes will start on Sunday.

He came up with the development on Saturday.

Proctor said, 8 students accused of beating to death a young man named Tofazzal Hossain on suspicion of being a thief in Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall have been expelled. At the same time, a new provost has been appointed.

On Friday afternoon, the 6 arrested students stated under section 164 before the court. Later they were sent to jail on the orders of the court.

Mohammad Amanullah Badi, the supervisor of the university’s estate office, filed a case at the Shahbag police station in connection with the lynching death of Tofazzal on September 19. Later in the afternoon, the police arrested the accused 6 people with the cooperation of DU’s proctorial team and students.
