Eventually SI Akbar was arrested

SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, the main accused in the Raihan Ahmed murder case, has finally been arrested at the Bandarbazar police outpost in Sylhet city. District police arrested him from the Dona border area of ​​Kanaighat upazila around 1.30pm on Monday (November 9).

Assistant Media Officer of Sylhet District Police and DB Inspector Saiful Alam confirmed the matter.

He said SI Akbar was being brought to Sylhet. Details will be informed later.It may be mentioned that Raihan died at 8:50 am on October 11 after being taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital after being tortured at the Bandarbazar police outpost. Raihan is the son of late Rafiqul Islam, habildar of BDR, Neharipara, Akhalia, Sylhet city. He used to work in a doctor’s chamber at Rikabibazar Stadium Market in the city.

Raihan’s wife Tahmina Akter Tani filed a case with the Kotwali Model Police Station on the night of October 12 accusing the unidentified persons of the incident.

On October 14, the case was transferred to the PBI on the instructions of the police headquarters. After receiving the investigation, the PBI team inspected the police outpost at Bandarbazar, the cast house in the city and the house of the deceased. After all, the body was taken out of the grave and re-autopsied.

The autopsy report showed 111 marks of injuries on the body of the deceased Raihan. Of these injuries, 96 were swollen injuries and 14 were signs of serious injuries. These injuries were caused by sticks. Raihan died of hypovolemic shock and neurogenic shock due to numerous injuries and loss of vital organs including brain, heart, lungs and kidneys.

Titu Chandra Das, a constable of Bandarbazar police outpost, and Harunur Rashid, a constable of Bandarbazar police outpost, were arrested on October 20 and remanded for five days. On Sunday (October 25), the PBI remanded Constable Titu for another three days.

When an investigation committee was formed by the metropolitan police on the afternoon of the incident, the committee brought Raihan to the outpost and found initial evidence of torture. On the recommendation of the inquiry committee, SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, in-charge of Bandarbazar outpost, Constables Harunur Rashid, Touhid Mia and Titu Chandra Das were suspended and ASI Ashek Elahi, ASI Qutb Ali and Constable Sajib Hossain were withdrawn and attached to the police lines.

Besides, on October 21, SI Akbar Uddin Bhuiyan, the main accused in the incident, was suspended from the outpost and two SI Hasan Uddin of Bandarbazar police outpost was suspended for concealing information.(Source: Online)
