Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur said, those individuals and organizations, who have taken money from the bank through irregularities are being treated separately.

“No organisation will be allowed to die,” he remarked at a press conference held at the central bank premises on Monday.

Governor said, “Our aim is not to close any institution, S Alam or Beximco. These are national resources. Individuals and organisations are different. It is easy to close an organisation but it is difficult to build one.  Nothing can be done in emotion. The board will decide who stays and who doesn’t.”

He further said, “Each bank is evaluated individually. We provide support, but out of responsibility, not in kind. Regarding S Alam’s punishment, we will appeal to the court, and the court will decide.”

Newly-appointed Islami Bank Chairman Obayed Ullah Al Masud said that the Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC plans to sell its shares which were seized by Bangladesh Bank soon after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

He said, “Islami Bank has a gap of Tk20,000 crore between investments and deposits. This gap will be mitigated by selling the shares held by the S Alam Group and issuing new shares.”
