Four people died and at least 21 others sustained burn injuries in a devastating fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse in Old Dhaka’s Armanitola area early Friday.

The deceased were identified as Oliullah, a security guard of the building where the warehouse situated, shop worker Russel Mia, the building resident Sumaya, and Olilullah’s guest Kabir.

Confirming the matter, Bangshal Police Station officer in-charge Shahin Fakir said a total of four bodies were recovered from the spot.

A chemical warehouse on the ground floor of six-storey ‘Haji Musa Mansion’ caught massive fire around 3am.

Being informed, 19 units of the fire extinguishers rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in around six hours’ frantic efforts.

To douse the blaze, four firefighters received injuries, said the fire service official Fazlur Rashid.

The injured, however, are being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said the facility residential surgeon Partha Shanker Pal.
