Political parties call for two-term limit for prime minister post

Placing a series of reform proposals, some political parties on Saturday urged Prof Mohammad Yunus, chief of the interim government, to introduce a provision limiting an individual from serving as prime minister post for more than two terms.

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and six other political parties placed the proposal during a meeting with the chief adviser of the interim government held at his official residence state guest house Jamuna in Dhaka this afternoon.

Additionally, the leaders of these political parties called upon the chief adviser to hold the next general election within a reasonable timeframe after implementing the necessary reforms to the state mechanism.

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Secretary General Mamunul Haque talked to the journalists after emerging from the meeting.

Earlier in the day, Yunus started a view exchange meeting with seven Islamic parties at the state guest house Jamuna.

Leaders of Khelafat Majlish, Nizam-e-Islam, Hefazat-e-Islam, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Islami Andolon, Khelafat Andolon and Jamiat Ulama-e Islam entered Jamuna at 3 pm on Saturday.

During the discussions, the political parties presented their proposals and views on the country’s current situation, the reform to the public administration and the election commission.
