Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Staff Correspondent: Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – yesterday plunged further due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 24.26 points or 0.39 percent to 6,190.99. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 2.99 points to finish at 2,177.41 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 5.87 points to close at 1,342.99.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, remained low and amounted to Taka 3,519.02 million, which was Taka 4,228.89 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 305 issues traded, 69 declined, 13 advanced and 223 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CLICL was the day’s top gainer, posting 9.80 percent gain while Aamra Net was the worst loser, losing 12.02 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -losing 61.48 points to settle at 18,382.62 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 37.80 points to close at 11,014.41.

Of the issues traded, 50 declined, 13 advanced and 71 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 32.09 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 13.15 crore.
