Finance and Trade Adviser Salehuddin Ahmad on Tuesday said that he thinks believe it is best to keep the Tk 1000 note as there is no issue with it.

Asked about the potential cancellation of Tk 1,000 notes, Salehuddin said, “It’s not appropriate to give a straightforward yes or no answer. We believe it’s best to keep the note as there is no issue with it. Decisions like these cannot be made hastily.”

He said any decision regarding cancellation of the Tk 1,000 note cannot be made lightly.

He made this remark in response to reporters’ questions following meetings with Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen and Canadian High Commissioner Lily Nichols at the Secretariat on Tuesday (August 20).

Asked if he was dismissing the cancellation rumours, Salehuddin clarified, “I haven’t made any statements from my side, so I won’t comment on rumours. This matter is under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Bank.”

Regarding whether the agreements signed with China last July would be upheld or reviewed, Salehuddin responded, “These matters were not discussed today. They will be considered at a higher level. We haven’t canceled or altered any agreements, and such decisions will be addressed in the cabinet.”
