The government has formed a seven-member investigation committee following a fire in Building 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat.
An official order related to this was issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday.
The order states that the investigation committee has been formed to probe the fire that broke out in the early hours of the day.
The committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the Ministry of Local Government, and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works; each representative will hold a rank from joint secretary or above, as specified in the order.
Additionally, representatives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Fire Service and Civil Defence will also be part of the committee.
The committee’s secretary will be the representative from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The order also states that the committee can co-opt one or more additional members if necessary.
The committee’s terms of reference mention that it will investigate the origin and cause of the fire, determine whether anyone has any personal or professional responsibility for the fire incident, and make recommendations for preventing similar accidents in the future.
The committee is expected to submit its report within the next seven working days, as stated in the official order.
