A court in Sirajganj has convicted and sentenced three persons including a woman to life term imprisonment for killing the woman’s husband.
The court also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default; they will have to suffer six more months in Jail.
Erfan Ullah, Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Sirajganj delivered the verdict on Sunday.
The convicted are: Mariam Khatun alias Tultuli, wife of late Amirul Islam of Boro Bashuria village in Shahzadpur upazila, Rejaul Karim, son of late Rajab Ali of Chantara village and Delbar Sarder, son of late Nobin Sarder of Chhoto Maharazpur village in the same upazila.
According to the prosecution brief, Mariam Khatun alias Tultuli got married off with Amirul Islam Alias Dudu about 18 years ago centering a love affair. Tultuli however, used to develop illegal affairs with several other males in the area that causes quarrel between the husband and wife.
At one stage on July 8, locals found the body of her husband-Amirul in a local field.
After the incident, victim’s elder brother lodged a case with Shahzadpur police station in this connection accusing several persons including identified five.
After an investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court involving seven persons.
After completion of hearing, the elite court convicted the three persons and acquitted four others as the allegation brought against them could not be proved. The convicted are now on the run.
