A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Mumbai on the pretext of getting work in a popular talk show – The Kapil Sharma Show, officials said. The accused, identified as Anand Singh, was arrested by Mumbai Police after the woman filed a complaint.

According to police, the accused and the woman met online a few days ago. Anand deceived the woman by claiming that he had connections with prominent personalities in the TV industry and could get her a job on The Kapil Sharma Show.

The woman fell for Anand’s words and he told her that she would need to give an audition to work on the show. He also said that if the audition went well, he would take her to the casting director.

The woman went to Anand’s house in the Nalasopara area of Palghar district to give the audition. Under the pretext of the audition, the accused allegedly raped the woman.

When she resisted, he physically assaulted her and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone, the police said.

Following the incident, the woman approached the police and an FIR was registered under Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

After filing the case, the police arrested the accused and presented him at a local court, where he was remanded to police custody for further investigation. Source: India Today
