The district administration in a drive evicted a total of 500 illegal structures from both sides of the Lakshmipur-Dhaka highway in Dalal Bazar area of Sadar upazila here this morning.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajib Kumar Sarker inaugurated the week-long drive in the area this morning.

“A week-long eviction drive has begun in the district. There will be no illegal structures on any property of the Roads and Highways, Water Development Board and the district administration. All multi-storey buildings or structures will be evicted,” the DC said.

Illegal structures on both sides of the road have been creating traffic congestion for a long time, causing road accidents, said Md. Zahirul Islam, executive engineer of Roads and Highways Department.

Many shops, multi-storey buildings and other establishments have been built in the district by occupying the property of the Roads and Highways

Department, he added.

“There are more than 5,000 illegal establishments in the entire district,” the executive engineer said, adding that the eviction drive has started by making a list of the illegal establishments.
