COVID-19 pandemic: Universal Amity stands by the people

Universal Amity, a social organization of students and teachers has now set up an exceptional example by providing live saving oxygen and other necessary medical accessories to the critical patients infected with coronavirus at a free of cost during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the organization has provided a number of oxygen cylinders and other necessary equipments to the cororna patients at different places of the country including Khulna area, while a severe scarcity of oxygen for the corona patients is prevailing across the country due to massive spread of the virus infection.

Besides, effort is going on to provide more supports to the corona infected people. It is also working hard to help the people in different means during the corona pandemic in a bid to get them out of poverty and make solvent in which they can survive sans begging.

The organization is extending aids through “Food for Good”, “Feed a Hungry Child”, “Amity Milk Bank”, “Amity Meat Bank” and “Animal Welfare” projects to address the challenge of hunger and poverty. It is also running “Income Aid” and “Aid for Education” projects for capacity building. To provide a water and sanitization facility, it is running the ‘Lifeline’ and ‘Cleanliness is Wellness’projects. Under its ‘Safe Shelter’s project, is also constructing houses to help deprived section of society. For the physically challenged, it has launched the “Aid for Life” project. During winter, to help street dwellers, it runs the “Winter Care” project. To help women and elderly people of society, it runs Care for Elder and Safety for Women projects. To help habitants of calamity-affected areas, Fund for Flood is being run.

Universal Amity’s “Income Aid” is to help people get out of poverty and become solvent so that they don’t need to beg. This program has helped hundreds of people without the burden of a loan. It also has a project to help special people and special children with wheelchairs. “Food for Good” is one of the most important projects to help the street people of Mirpur-10, the program is 382 days and running. The project has the ambition to expand in the near future. It’s also planning to help the flood-affected people with a long-term project plan. With a huge ambition, Universal Amity has been registered by the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms Bangladesh under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860(No. S-13614/2021) in June 2021.

Universal Amity envisions a better place to live with all and never wants to allow people in need to beg. It expects cordial cooperation and genuine support to expedite the humanitarian movement from every corner of society.

Former US President Ronald Reagan once said, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone”. Like the great quote, Universal Amity is a social activist group working for people since 2015. It started with small projects then soon it took big initiatives in big projects to help people in need.

With the aiding of flood-affected people in Lalmonirhath on August 05 in 2015, Universal Amity started its journey. Then it’s started aiding the flood-affected people of different remote village in Thakurgaon. In each flood-affected program, Amity helped almost 1000 families. It’s become a part of the group activities every year. From the North Bengal to the Greater Khulna, Amity has been working to help the people in need in every crisis. It also helped people affected by Amfan and Yass Cyclone. Currently, Universal Amity is working on 25 diverse projects. It has adopted a multipronged approach to address the challenge of hunger, poverty, water, and sanitation in Bangladesh. Universal Amity is running need-based and crisis management projects. Universal Amity is always alert, vigilant, and active to help the sufferer and needy.

Selim Hossain, 35, of Paikpara village in Khulna said, “Universal Amity Foundation has introduced of humanity by providing oxygen to the corona patients during the acute crisis of oxygen across the country. It was very difficult to procure an oxygen cylinder for us, if the organization did not help.”

Mehedi Hasan, Chairman of the Universal Amity Foundation said, “We are trying to provide all kinds of supports including foods and oxygen cylinders to the corona hit poor people during the severe crisis of oxygen and foods in the country during pandemic. If we get financial supports from the government or any other donor agency, we will try to keep continue our contributions in future.”
