Ex-Sirajganj BCL leader arrested in Dhaka

Police have arrested Abdullah Bin Ahmed, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Sirajganj district unit in a case filed for killing of Sohanur Rahman Ranju, deputy general secretary of the district Jubo Dal, during the anti-discrimination student movement.

He was arrested from Karwan Bazar area of ​​the capital city Dhaka on Friday (February 28) night.

On Saturday (March 1) afternoon, Mobarak Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon Police Station in Dhaka confirmed the matter and said, “The arrestee will be sent to Sirajganj district prison after producing him before a court in Dhaka.”

Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station said that, Abdullah is an accused of the murder case.

It was revealed that, Jubo Dal leader Sohanur Rahman Ranju was killed on SS Road in Sirajganj town on August 4 during the anti-discrimination student movement. In this incident, the deceased’s wife, Mousumi Khatun, filed a case with Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, naming 150 people from the Sirajganj District Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League as accused, as well as 100-150 unknown people. Abdullah is one of the identified accused.

“After the incident, the one of the main accused Abdullah went into hiding to avert arrest. Acting on a tip off, he was finally arrested by police from Dhaka,” the OC added.
