Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that city corporation elections will be conducted in phases during the tenure of the newly appointed administrators.
He added that Parliament will decide whether future city polls will take place under party symbols.
The minister also informed that administrators appointed to six city corporations, including Dhaka North and South, submitted their joining letters to the ministry on Tuesday.
The six administrators pledged to combat corruption and address issues such as mosquito control, traffic congestion, and road maintenance. They said they would set specific targets to ensure public services in city corporations that have remained inactive for a long time.
LGRD State Minister Mir Shahe Alam stated that political leaders would be able to perform better than government officials, which is why administrators were appointed.
Earlier, Fakhrul had mentioned that the government had no plans to appoint administrators to municipalities.
