A farmer died after being struck by lightning while ploughing a field with a power tiller in Mesra Union of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Md. Babu Islam, 35, son of Abul Hossain of the same village.

The incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Tuesday (September 22) in Aknadighi village of Mesra Union.

According to local sources, Babu had gone to the field that morning to plough the land with his power tiller. He was critically injured when lightning suddenly struck. Although locals rescued him and attempted to take him to the hospital for treatment, he passed away on the way.

Indrajit Barman, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident.
