President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stressed the need to give greater emphasis to technology, engineering and technical education aimed at creating employment opportunities at home and abroad.

He made the remarks when a delegation led by Pabna University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the vice-chancellor briefed the president on the university’s overall academic activities.

The president said the quality of education must be improved in line with the rapidly changing world so that students can keep pace with global developments.

He also stressed the need to gradually move away from an education system that contributes to unemployment and fails to equip students with job-oriented skills.

During the meeting, the vice-chancellor formally invited the president, in his capacity as chancellor, to attend the university’s upcoming convocation. The president accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the event.
