The Government has decided to withdraw all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in the country in the following circumstances. It is said that they will be withdrawn by Tuesday. After that, new DCs will be appointed.

The Cabinet Division and Ministry of Public Administration sources state that the new DCs will be appointed from among the BCS 24, 25, and 27 batch officers including the newly promoted deputy secretaries. Recruitment criteria will be based on “merit, efficiency, and integrity”.

The help of five officials who were “deprived” during the previous government will be used to address the issue of DC appointments. They are – Nurjahan Khanam and Nazrul Islam of the BCS 24th batch, Nurul Karim Bhuiyan and Farida Khanam of the 25th batch, and Sarwar Alam of the 27th batch.

It was learned that the oral examination of administration officials who wanted to be DC was held on Monday afternoon. New DCs will be appointed Tuesday or Wednesday.

Earlier, last night, a meeting was held at the Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain’s room, where Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, senior secretary of the Public Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, finance secretary Dr. Khayeruzzaman Majumdar along with several members of SSB. This issue was discussed in the meeting.

It is learned that many DCs have expressed their “reluctance to perform their duties” in the circumstances that have arisen. They have already spoken to the senior officials to withdraw them from the field administration. Hence, it has been decided to withdraw all the DCs.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in the mass uprising by the students-public movement on August 5, appointments are being canceled, and new appointments and transfers are being made at various levels of administration.

The secretary of the Public Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Jahangir Alam, who had various complaints against him, was sent on compulsory retirement on Wednesday (August 14). On this day, a notification was issued from the Ministry of Public Administration.

Contractual appointments, on the other hand, of 11 secretaries and secretaries-level of various ministries, departments, and organizations were also canceled. A notification was issued by the ministry on the afternoon of the same day canceling their contractual appointment.

After that, there were more notifications of cancellations, new appointments, and transfers. It is said that it will continue in the future.
