The full verdict on the cancellation of eight cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been published on Saturday.

These cases, related to the accusation of burning buses in the capital’s Darus Salam and Jatrabari police stations in 2015, were filed against the BNP chairperson.

The Supreme Court published the detailed copy of the verdict on its website.

Earlier, on October 30, 2024, a High Court bench consisting of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain issued a ruling and cancelled the proceedings of the cases.

In the court, Khaleda Zia was represented by senior lawyers like Zainul Abedin, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, and Advocate Maksud Ullah.

On behalf of the state, Deputy Attorney General Md Jasim Sarker, Russell Ahmed, Assistant Attorney General Md Gias Uddin Gazi, Shamima Akter Banu, Laboni Akter, and Kazi Mohammad Moniruzzaman appeared.

The cases were filed for bus burning incidents on January 29, February 4, February 20, March 1, and March 3, 2015, in Darus Salam police station, and on January 23, January 24, 2015, in Jatrabari police station.

Subsequently, charge sheets were submitted for these cases.

In 2017, Khaleda Zia filed a petition in the High Court seeking the cancellation of these cases.

The High Court then issued a ruling and imposed a stay order on the proceedings of the cases.

After the final hearing of this rule, in October of the previous year, the High Court ruled in favour of the cancellation of these cases.

Following the verdict, senior lawyers said that the court had issued an absolute rule in these cases.
