JS passes current fiscal year’s supplementary budget

A supplementary budget of Tk 37,817,40,57,000 crore for the current (2023-24) fiscal year has been passed by the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali introduced the ‘Specification (Supplementary) Bill-2024’ in JS on Monday (June 10). The bill was later passed by voice vote.

This supplementary bill is introduced to provide authority for specification and allocation in excess of sanctioned funds from the Consolidated Fund for carrying out activities for the current fiscal year that ends June 30.

In the main budget of the current fiscal year, Tk 761,785 crores were allocated in favor of 62 ministries and departments. In the revised budget, the allocation of 22 ministries and departments has increased by Tk 37,817 crore. The revised budget has been reduced by Tk 47,367 crore and fixed at Tk 714,418 crore.

The Ministry of Agriculture has received the maximum amount of Tk 8,157,75,78,000 in the supplementary budget. Four MPs proposed 66 cuts against 20 demands in this budget. Among them, the proposal to cut two concessions was discussed, namely the Department of Economic Relations and the Department of Information and Communication Technology.

Earlier, the Government and opposition MPs discussed the supplementary budget.
