Bollywood powerhouse Tabu is taking her international presence to new heights with a slew of upcoming projects. Her appearance at the New York premiere of HBO’s highly-anticipated series, “Dune: Prophecy”, solidifies her growing global reputation.
At the premiere, Tabu rubbed shoulders with her talented castmates, including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, further cementing her position as a sought-after actress on the world stage.
The premiere night also saw a special reunion for Tabu, as she met up with her Life of Pi director Ang Lee, who attended the event. This marked a delightful reunion for the duo, who previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed film, which also featured Irrfan Khan.
Tabu plays Sister Francesca in the series, based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune: The Sisterhood. Her character is part of an epic storyline set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ ascension, following two Harkonnen sisters combating forces threatening humanity’s future and establishing the Bene Gesserit sect.
For the premiere, Tabu donned a breathtaking black ensemble crafted by celebrated designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The traditional Angarkha outfit showcased the revival of their iconic ‘Crushed Silk’ collection, turning heads on the red carpet. “It is a custom-made dress. It has taken a month to create…It is by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla,” she said, adding, “The most celebrated designers in India. I love them.”
Tabu had earlier expressed her excitement about playing Sister Francesca, saying she accepted the role “without batting an eyelid”.
She told PTI, “It has been an extraordinary experience playing Sister Francesca in Dune: Prophecy right from the moment I was approached for it, and I said yes without batting an eyelid. It’s an actor’s delight to be trusted by the creators with a character that is so interesting, intriguing, intelligent and emotionally powerful,” Tabu said in a statement. The actor will star in the recurring role of Sister Francesca, who is described as a “strong, intelligent, and alluring” character.
