A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former railways minister and ex-MP of Comilla-11 constituency, Mujibul Haque.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday.

Earlier, the investigating officer and ACC Deputy Director (money laundering) Md Masudur Rahman submitted the application for the travel ban.

The ACC was represented by Mahmud Hossain Jahangir during the hearing. Subsequently, the judge issued the order, which was confirmed by ACC Court Inspector Amir Hossain.

According to the application, Mujibul Haque is accused of amassing wealth beyond his known sources of income through irregularities and corruption, including tender manipulation, recruitment malpractice, and misappropriation of funds from various railway development projects.

The allegations include acquiring significant assets in his name and those of his family members, both domestically and abroad, by abusing his position and political influence.

Citing information from reliable sources, the ACC expressed concern in the application that Mujibul Haque might attempt to leave the country under the current circumstances.

To ensure an impartial investigation, the ACC argued that preventing his departure was essential.
