Entertainment Desk:
This year is coming to an end. In this outgoing year, about 45 big screen projects, including Eid films, have been released in Dhallywood. However, apart from the Eid-centric films, the movies released during other times of the year have not been much of a commercial success or the centre of discussion.
This year, two popular small screen actresses-Tasnia Farin and Sabila Nur-have made their commercial film debuts. Sabila Nur started her journey on the big screen opposite Shakib Khan, while Tasnia Farin made her film debut in a pair with Sariful Razz. Both of them have been able to garner praise from the audience and critics in their first film.
All in all, 2025 was an eventful year for Dhallywood, filled with successes and failures, new faces debuting, and talked-about performances. Films that have caught the attention of the audience due to their story, acting or new faces are discussed below:
BORBAAD: The movie “Barbad” was released on Eid-ul-Fitr this year. Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan was paired with Kolkata’s Idhika Paul in the Mehedi Hasan Ridoy-directed film. Shakib’s look and acting in this movie received a great response from the audience. In addition, the dialogue “Jillu Maal De” from this movie went viral on social media in a short time.
TAANDOB: Shakib Khan-starrer another movie “Taandob” was also in great discussion this year. Jaya Ahsan, Sabila Nur, Afzal Hossain, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Rozi Siddiqui, Fazlur Rahman Babu and others have acted in the Raihan Rafi’s film.
DAAGI: Afran Nisho-starrer film “Daagi” was praised by the audience. Tama Mirza and Sunerah Binte Kamal were opposite Nisho in this movie. Earlier, Nisho won the audience’s hearts with the movie “Surongo”.
JONGLI: M Rahim-directed Jongli was also a commercial success and came under discussion. The movie stars Siam Ahmed, Shobnom Bubly, Dighi, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Rashed Mamun Apu and others.
UTSHOB: The film “Utshob” directed by Tanim Noor was released on Eid-ul-Azha this year. This family-centric movie quickly became a favourite among the audience after its release. It is one of the most commercially successful movies of the year. A star-studded cast including Zahid Hassan, Afsana Mimi, Jaya Ahsan, Aupee Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Azad Abul Kalam, Intekhab Dinar, Sunerah Binte Kamal, Soumya Jyoti and Sadia Ayman .
DELUPI: Toward year’s end, Touqir Islam’s “Delupi” breathed some life into an otherwise stagnant cinema scene. In this young filmmaker’s hands, folk elements, religion, myth, politics, superstition, and human psychology emerged through intricate weaving. Though released in limited theaters, most viewers praised the film. The performances, sound design, locations, and cinematography combined to make “Delupi” a bold step from new-generation filmmakers. Critics included it among the year’s finest works in their reviews.
However, none of the 22 films released after Eid could win the hearts of the audience. Most of the movies were of poor quality, which is why the audience did not show interest in going to the cinema hall.
In addition to the booming business in domestic theatres, some films have also seen success in the international market. Although not commercially successful, some films, including “Anyadin”, “Fereshteh”, “Barir Naam Shahana”, “Boli” “Rickshaw Girl” “Jaya Ar Sharmin” “Saba” and “Esha Murder” have won praise from the audience and critics.
