A human chain was formed at Baza’ar Station area in Sirajganj town on Wednesday under the banner of Bangladesh Landless Movement, Sirajganj District Unit, to press home their four point demands including rehabilitation of landless people.

About 300 people of 160 landless and homeless families took part in the human chain at about 10:00am with Md Miraj Mollah, President of the organization’s district unit, in the chair.

After the human chain, the demonstrators also brought out a procession that marched the main streets in the town despite the drizzling. They also submitted a memorandum to the Acting Deputy Commissioner (DC) through his representative.

Speakers at the programme said, some 310 houses were constructed at Khokshabari Sheltering Project in Sirajganj Sadar upazila with the government initiative, but, there is no genuine landless in the sheltering centre at all. Most of the rooms have remained locked now, while many have given rent for living of outsiders. But, the real landless people of the area have been leading miserable lives along with their families under the open sky for want of houses or lands.

The demonstrators also demand an investigation in this regard and reallocate the houses for the real landless people.

Advisor of the organization’s Secretaries SM Rafiqul Ehsan Biplob, General Secretary Azgar Ali, Joint General Secretary Abdul Quader and Organizing Secretary Rashidul Islam among others spoke on the occasion.
