Six more people died of dengue across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, while 1,593 new patients were hospitalised with the virus during the same period.

This information was disclosed on Sunday in a press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the DGHS notification, out of the 1,593 newly hospitalised patients, the highest number of 384 was recorded in Dhaka Division (outside city corporation areas).

Among other regions, 292 patients were admitted in Khulna Division, 171 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 167 in Chattogram Division, 154 in Barishal Division, 137 in Rajshahi Division, 132 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 82 in Mymensingh Division, 1,965 in Rangpur Division, and 9 in Sylhet Division.

Of the six deaths reported in the 24-hour period, two occurred in Chattogram Division and two in Khulna Division (outside city corporation areas).

The remaining two fatalities were recorded in Barishal Division (outside city corporation areas) and Dhaka Division (outside city corporation areas), with one death each.

According to overall DGHS statistics, a total of 61,972 dengue patients were hospitalised nationwide between 1 January and 20 September. Male patients account for 38,668 (62.6 per cent) of total admissions, while female patients account for 23,063 (37.4 per cent).

With the latest casualties, the countrywide death toll from dengue stands at 184. Meanwhile, a total of 57,610 patients have recovered and returned home so far this year.

Month-wise data highlights a sharp surge during the ongoing month, with 26,126 dengue infections and 87 deaths registered in the first 20 days of September alone.
