The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has recorded the season’s lowest temperature in Rajshahi, where the mercury dropped to 7 degrees Celsius this morning.

Meteorologist Omar Faruk told that a cold wave is currently sweeping across 10 districts: Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Rangamati, Jashore, Kushtia and Chuadanga.

According to the forecast, both daytime and night-time temperatures may rise marginally today. However, the overall weather situation is expected to remain largely unchanged until January 11.

“There is little chance of any major variation during this period. Temperatures are likely to begin rising from January 12,” the meteorologist said.

Under the meteorological classification, a mild cold wave occurs when minimum temperatures range between 10 and 8.1 degrees Celsius. Temperatures between 8 and 6.1 degrees indicate a moderate cold wave, 6 to 4.1 degrees a severe cold wave, and anything below 4 degrees Celsius is considered very severe.
