The price of gold in the local market has increased again, peaking at a record price in the history of the country. Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has fixed the price of best quality (22-carat) gold at Tk 122,985 per bhori, increasing it by Tk 2,904. The new price of gold is effective from Monday.
The circular, signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Sunday (August 18) evening, said that the price of pure gold has increased in the local market. As a result, the new price of gold has been fixed considering the overall situation.
The new prices show that the 22-carat (11.664 grams) gold will cost Tk 122,985 per bhori. Apart from this, the price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 117,398 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 100,625 per bhori, and the traditional method of gold has been fixed at Tk 83,199 per bhori.
BAJUS says that government-fixed 5 percent VAT and BAJUS-fixed minimum wage of 6 percent must be added to the selling price of gold. However, the wages may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewelry.
Earlier, BAJUS last adjusted the price of gold in the domestic market on July 14. At that time, the organization had fixed the price of 22-carat gold by hiking Tk 1,190 to Tk 120,081 per bhori. Besides, 21-carat gold had been fixed at Tk 114,622 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 98,246 per bhori, and the traditional method gold had been fixed at Tk 81,229 per bhori – which was effective from July 15.
Mentioned that the price of gold has been adjusted 33 times in the country’s market so far this year, where the price has been increased 18 times and reduced 15 times. In 2023, the price was adjusted 29 times.
