Govt served legal notice to stop exporting Hilsa

Court Correspondent:A legal notice has been served to the authorities concerned of the government to stop exporting Hilsa fish to India.Supreme Court lawyer MdMahmudul Hasan sent the legal notice yesterday.

Secretaries to the Commerce Ministry, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry and Revenue Board Chairman, Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Chairman and Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports were made respondents to the notice.

In the legal notice, Mahmudul said he will file a writ petition with the High Court if the government does not stop the export of Hilsa fish to India in seven days.

The lawyer, in the legal notice, said the poor people of the country cannot afford to buy Hilsa due to its high cost. The price of Hilsa has been increased in the markets of Bangladesh due to export of this type of fish to India.

He further said Hilsa fish is not exportable product under the Export Policy 2021-2024.

But the commerce ministry has approved the export of Hilsa to India ignoring the interest of the people of Bangladesh, he said added.
