West Indies women’s team head coach Shane Deitz believes the upcoming series against Bangladesh couldn’t have come at a better time.
The two teams will compete in three ODIs and three T20Is, from January 19-31, at the Warner Park in St. Kitts.
The Windies go into their final assignment of the 2022-25 Women’s Championship cycle on the back of a 3-0 series loss to India, which dashed their hopes of an automatic qualification to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
“Bangladesh’s visit comes at an ideal time in our preparation cycle,” Deitz said.
The hosts have made two changes to the squad that featured on the recent tour of India.
Cherry-Ann Fraser has been recalled for the ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh, while Jannillea Glasgow has received a maiden ODI call-up.
“This series gives us an excellent opportunity to examine our squad depth and continue to implement our aggressive, flamboyant brand of West Indian cricket,” opined the West Indies coach.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, have all to play for in the upcoming series and can still make it to this year’s Cricket World Cup if they win two of their remaining three games.
Cricket West Indies’ director of cricket Miles Bascombe welcomed the series:
“We’ve seen Bangladesh’s progress in recent years, and these matches will be crucial for both teams. We are particularly excited about showcasing our women’s team to a larger home audience, giving cricket fans throughout the region a chance to see international women’s cricket up close.”
