Workers at Transcom Beverages staged a protest in the Telirchala area of Kaliakair Upazila in Gazipur Tuesday, demanding the implementation of the newly announced government wage structure, timely payment of salaries, and the removal of Indian officials from the factory.

The protest, which included a list of 20 demands, took place in front of the main gate of the factory, located along the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.

The protest was sparked by the factory management’s failure to implement the government’s new wage structure, according to police and worker sources. The workers’ demands include increasing the minimum wage to Tk7,000, promoting all workers every three years, and ensuring that female workers are not required to work night shifts.

The workers also called for the removal of Indian officials from the factory.

During the protest, the workers insisted that the factory’s senior management resolve their grievances and demanded the dismissal of the Senior Plant Manager. In response to the escalating situation, members of the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and industrial police were deployed to the scene and urged the workers to continue their protest peacefully.

Nitai Chandra Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of the Industrial Police’s Kaliakair Zone, stated that the workers of Transcom Beverages Limited organised the protest in front of the factory’s main gate along the Dhaka-Tangail Highway, demanding the resolution of their issues through discussions with senior officials.
