Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said the Deans Committee meeting did not take any decision or proposal to cancel the admission test of ‘C’ unit. Instead, the resolution of the meeting said that special arrangements should be made for this unit and the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The DU vice-chancellor made the remarks in a courtesy call on the leaders of the new executive committee of the Education Reporters Association, Bangladesh (IRAB) on Wednesday (November 11th). The meeting was held at the Vice Chancellor’s office.

Newly elected leaders and other journalists, including Sabbir Newaz, special correspondent of Dainik Samakal, president of the new Arab committee, and Shariful Alam Sumon, senior reporter of Dainik Kalerkantha, were present at the time.

Incidentally, the decision to remove the ‘D’ unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the ‘F’ unit of the Faculty of Fine Arts from the admission test of Dhaka University (DU) has recently sparked various discussions and criticisms.

In this regard, Vice Chancellor Akhtaruzzaman said, special arrangements are being considered for admission in the ‘C’ unit. So that the students get the benefits of the admission test in an easy way. The ‘f’ unit is a specialized unit. There must be a separate test for that. There is no question of canceling it.

Professor Akhtaruzzaman further said, “This issue was in the review regarding the admission test. Discussions to reduce the unit have been going on since 2016. The type of admission test for the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences is almost the same. Deans disagreed on two tests on similar questions. Basically, considering the overall aspect, we are going to reduce the exams to reduce the harassment of the students.

“We want to bring students under text-based exams and reduce exams.”

Recently, the authorities have taken a preliminary decision to abolish the admission test of the ‘D’ unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the ‘C’ unit of the Faculty of Fine Arts from the 2021-22 academic year. The test of these two units will be taken through ‘B’ unit. However, the Vice-Chancellor said that there was no discussion in the Deans’ meeting about the cancellation of ‘C’ unit.(Source: Online)
