TDS Desk:
Anti-discrimination student movement leaders Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah filed a writ petition in the High Court on Monday seeking restrictions on political activities of the ousted Awami League (AL), while not seeking a blanket ban on the party itself.
The High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi may hear the petition.
The government outlawed Awami League’s student front Chhatra League on 23 October.
A student-led mass movement toppled the Awami League government on 5 August. An interim government headed by Dr Yunus took charge three days later with promises of reforms before arranging a free, fair and neutral election.
Last week, a senior Awami League leader said they were planning to resume political activities and demonstrate against the interim government within two to four weeks.
