Staff Correspondent:
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that BNP and like-minded people have supported the movement to abolish quota. That means they have participation in the movement. And whether it is part of a conspiracy or not, the course of the movement will make it clear. Awami League is observing the direction of this movement.
On Monday, he said this at a press conference at the political office of the Awami League president at Dhanmondi in the capital.
Obaidul Quader said that the government has appointed lawyers because it is sincere about abolishing quota. It is not appropriate to comment on pending matters. Any agitation and road closure programs should be avoided before the High Court verdict.
He said I spoke about teachers’ pension and students’ movement yesterday. Awami League President and Prime Minister spoke about this.
He also said that the government abolished all quotas by issuing a circular in 2018. Later, the children of 7 brave freedom fighters appealed to the high court for the reinstatement of the quota. The matter is under trial in the highest court of the country. We have to wait till the high court verdict. We think that the High Court will take into consideration the factual situation.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, SM Kamal Hossain, Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur and others were present.
