Law Adviser Asif Nazrul on Monday said the murder case of Osman Hadi would be tried under the Speedy Trial Tribunal to ensure swift justice.

In a Facebook post on Monday afternoon, Asif Nazrul said the proceedings would be conducted under the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002.

Citing Section 10 of the law, he noted that the trial must be concluded within a maximum of 90 days from the submission of the police report.

The decision comes amid mounting public demands for prompt justice over Hadi’s killing.

Osman Hadi, a vibrant figure of the July 2024 uprising and spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho, was shot a day after the Election Commission announced that the next national election would be held on 12 February. He was later flown to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of 18 December.

His death has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for exemplary punishment of those responsible.
