The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Wednesday took cognisance of formal charges against Maj Gen (retd) Ziaul Ahsan in connection with allegations of enforced disappearance and murder.
Prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim said the prosecution submitted the charge sheet to the tribunal’s registrar earlier in the day.
Following the move, the tribunal set 21 December for the next hearing and ordered the authorities to produce Ziaul Ahsan before the court on that date.
Although there was no scheduled hearing today, the tribunal proceeded with the case in the absence of the accused, who was not produced before the court.
Ziaul Ahsan, a former senior official of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), previously headed the force’s intelligence wing as additional director general (operations). He also served as director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre until 5 August last year.
He was arrested on 15 August last year in connection with a murder case filed with New Market Police Station in Dhaka.
