The prosecution team has obtained significant phone call records implicating Sheikh Hasina and others in alleged genocide during the mass uprising of July-August last year.
Prosecutors have also uncovered crucial evidence related to forced disappearances during the same period, prosecutors said during a press briefing at the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday.
However, they have expressed concerns over alleged non-cooperation from relevant authorities in presenting these critical pieces of evidence to the tribunal.
Prosecutors Tanvir Hasan Zoha and B.M. Sultan Mahmud informed the tribunal that the call records and additional evidence point to organized acts of violence that are being categorized as genocide.
During the proceedings, it was noted that the killings began with the quota reform movement and escalated during the anti-government protests, resulting in what is now being described as mass atrocities.
While debates continue regarding the exact number of casualties, official data remains incomplete.
According to a preliminary list compiled by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 708 individuals were killed during the unrest. Efforts to finalize the death toll are ongoing as investigators gather further details.
