Sampadak Parishad (Editor’s Council) expressed concern and protested on Sunday (June 23) over a recent statement of the Bangladesh Police Service Association (BPSA).

Earlier, BPSA urged the media to maintain more caution and proper adherence to journalistic ethics in reporting about the force, as recent graft reports came to its notice.

“Recent media reports unearthed hidden empires of undisclosed earnings of some current and former government officials.

Sampadak Parishad leaders said the statement by Police Service Association is a threat to the independent media.

This is contrary to independent and impartial journalism practices.

In addition, police cooperation has been sought in the continuous efforts of media workers to implement the government’s policy against corruption.

A statement in this regard was signed by Sampadak Parishad president Mahfuz Anam and general secretary Dewan Hanif Mahmud.

It is also said that the statement of the Police Service Association is an expression of indecent, unreasonable and irresponsible behavior towards independent media and impartial journalism.

Besides, a statement signed by DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and General Secretary Mohi Uddin said news hasn’t been run with special purpose. Journalists always publish responsible and fact-based news.

DRU, a platform of capital-based reporters, claimed that the language of BPSA reaction contradicts to independent journalism.
